Disability of Carla and Daniel
Semi-Critique of THE OTHER SISTER
The movie that I watched was The Other Sister. The movie is primarily about a young lady, named Carla, and her reintroduction into her family. She, and boy friend Daniel, both have some kind of mental handicap. The movie shows their trials within the lives that they lead, and the way in which family and other people react to them. Carla and Daniel are the main protagonists, and are portrayed by the actors as highly sympathetic ones at that. They are the underdogs to root for as the drama unfolds, until in the climax, it is Carla, the disabled outcast of the family, who tries to reach out to as many people as she can, regardless of who or what they are.
Character Study 1: Hamm
A couple of years back, a friend of mine was going to film school and mentioned a project that sounded interesting. So I called him up, found out more details, and began to write as he drove home. Some things, didn’t make sense in lieu of what he needed, so there were rewrites. All of this took place over a couple of hours. And it was done. The assignment was a character study about a character from a one act play called Endgame, at least in English, by the playwright Samuel Beckett. The character that was to be studied was Hamm. This is his story. At least….according to us that night.
What he was….and is…..to me.
The mind is something that has fascinated me for a long time. Think about all that we can do. All the art of its various types. Music. Mathematics. Science. Stories. Philosophy. Faith. Everything we strive to be starts in the mind. And I had a master craftsman in the form of my uncle. His carpentry work was spectacular, and it was something to behold. From his carpentry, and my parent’s commitment to work, I grew up with a sense of pride in working and in working hard. That inspired me to try in my studies.
